OATSP
The OATSP stands for the Oregon Association for the Teachers
of Spanish and Portuguese and is is an organization dedicated
to the promotion of the study of Spanish and Portuguese.
OATSP Mission
The Oregon Association of Spanish and Portuguese Teachers,
OATSP, is an organization dedicated to promote the study
of Spanish and Portuguese at all levels, K-12, college and
university. OATSP also promotes the study of literature,
culture and all other aspects of the language. One of the
main goals of OATSP is to help Spanish and Portuguese teachers
to get new ideas and pedagogical techniques in the language
so they can help their students to achieve proficiency in
the target language.
The Association
The Oregon Association of Spanish and Portuguese Teachers,
OATSP operates under he umbrella of COFLT, the Confederation
in Oregon for Language Teaching. OATSP promotes excellence
in the delivery of language teaching by participating in
two yearly Oregon State Language Conferences which are offered
by COFLT. Members of the association participate in different
national conference. When participating in these conferences,
members bring new ideas and techniques which they share
with colleagues.
Major Focus:
1. Participating in two yearly Oregon State Conferences
sponsored by COFLT.
2. Offering two major yearly events which main focus is
to expose teachers and students to the Spanish and Portuguese
language and culture. These events include the Latin American
Festival, worshops by well known presenters that offer current
teaching practices
3. Promote "Tertutulias," informal meetings in which teachers
have the opportunity to share their best teaching practices
or discuss literary works.
4. Promotes the participation of teachers and their students
in the National Spanish Exam.
Plans:
1. To sponsor one workshop for teachers.
2. To participate in two COFLT Conference.
3. To continue offering "tertulias."
4. To offer a Hispanic-American Christmas party for all
Spanish and Portunguese teachers.
5. To promote participation at the annual AATSP Conference.

Our "tertulia" study group will be discussing this 9th of
August/ 10:00AM at True Brew Coffee House El túnel by Ernesto
Sábato. Discussions are in Spanish; please come and join
us and meet new friends. Our "tertulia" meetings will be
held the first Saturday of every month at 10:00 AM at True
